One Column

John and Priscilla Alden are my 9^th great grandparents and Mayflower passengers. There are an estimated 1 million descendants of John and Priscilla.

John was born in 1598, possibly in Southampton, Hampshire, England. His actual birth location has never been proven. He came to America aboard the Mayflower in 1620. He was a crew member and the ship's cooper (responsible for maintaining the ship's barrels). He was part of the ship's crew and not a settler, but decided to stay in America. He marrie Hed Priscilla Mullins in 1621 or 1622 in Plymouth Colony. The exact year is unkown, but Priscilla is no longer listed independently after 1623. Her entire family had perished during the first winter. He was a signer of the Mayflower Compact and its last living member. John died September 12, 1687 in Plymouth Colony and is buried in Myles Standish Burial Ground. The approximate location of his grave was marked with a memorial stone in 1930.

He was annually elected to the Governor's Council nearly every year from 1640 to 1686. He served as Treasurer of Plymouth Colony, Deputy to the General Court of Plymouth, a member of the colony's Council of War, and a member of the colony's Committee on Kennebec Trade, among other posts (Wikipedia).

Priscilla Mullins was most likely born in Dorking, Surrey, England in about 1601. She was about 18 years of age when she came to America. Her father, step-mother, and brother Joseph died during the first winter. She had another brother and sister who had stayed behind in England. When she died is not exaclty known. She is last found in the records in 1650, but oral tradition has her passing a few years before John, in about 1680.
